The New Pathfinder Board Game Rewards Metagaming in Shared Experiences
The renowned game publisher has developed its gaming portfolio with a new cooperative board game, designed to attract both longtime players and beginners to the universe of Golarion.
Combining RPG Elements
Participants will traverse modular maps, battle foes, and tackle over four hundred story-driven obstacles ranging from opening rewards or responding to NPCs.
"The aim to meet in the middle where various enthusiasts are able to discover something to love," commented a lead developer.
Streamlined Rolling
Instead of the standard 20-sided die, players now toss special d6 dice with markings representing hits, unique powers, and monster effects.
- Stars activate class-specific skills
- Skull symbols enable foes to perform their special actions
- Character traits can modify outcomes by negating negative results or granting positive ones
Branching Campaign
All action has impact, recorded on a progress tracker that affects upcoming scenarios. Participants may replay previous decisions thanks to a reality-warping feature featuring a time dragon.
Accessible
While incorporating the RPG's classes, ancestries, and story, the game is designed for players having no existing TTRPG knowledge.
Characters advance after each adventure, earning new powers and items along the way.
Release Plans
Pathfinder Quest offers four character types—scout, cleric, warrior, and sorcerer—with more options offered as stretch goals.
A deluxe edition features models and special content, while the standard edition uses cardboard pieces.
Backer support will shape the final scale of the product, with potential add-ons currently envisioned.
Expected delivery is targeting early 2026.
