Ex- Federal Bureau of Investigation head James the ex-FBI chief has entered an innocent plea to giving untrue testimony to congressional representatives and hindering a lawmaking procedure.

The former director's lawyer filed the plea representing him in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.

Patrick Fitzgerald announced he would try to have the legal matter dismissed for multiple causes including that his defendant, a detractor of President Donald Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

James Comey was indicted just days after the former president pushed his chief prosecutor to take action against him.

Legal Proceedings

In court on Wednesday, his attorney the legal representative told the court they aimed to submit various legal requests to throw out the legal matter before a court case, stating the government's case was vindictive and that a government lawyer was unlawfully assigned to handle the proceedings.

James Comey's case was first handled by Erik Siebert, who resigned under pressure from Donald Trump after his probe into another opponent - New York Attorney General Letitia James - failed to bring criminal charges.

Judicial Environment

James Comey came across in good spirits as he walked into the legal venue on mid-week, chatting with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was joined by his partner, Mrs Failor and child Maureen, a US lawyer who the previous administration recently fired.

Upon hearing to the court state his constitutional guarantees and the pair of allegations against him in court on mid-week, James Comey was inquired if he grasped the accusations.

"Yes your honour. Appreciate it," he told the judge.

Historical Information

The former director was the FBI Director from 2013 to 2017 and was dismissed about a few months into the former president's initial presidency as commander-in-chief. At the time, he was directing an probe into foreign election meddling and whether there were any relationships between the Russian government and Trump's campaign.

Throughout his leadership, Mr Comey sparked a negative reaction from Democrats when he announced just immediately preceding the 2016 election that he was investigating political contender Hillary Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Legal actions against Clinton were not pursued, leading to negative feedback from the Republican party as well.

Ongoing Accusations

Government attorneys allege James Comey lied to the legislature during a legislative proceeding in 2020 when he was being questioned about both the email probe as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They allege he provided false information to the Senate by claiming he had not authorized someone at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to disclose to news outlets information about the agency probes.

Government lawyers also allege the defendant of "corruptly endeavoring to affect, block and impede" the legislative group by providing untrue information to it.

Personal Comments

In a video James Comey published to his social media after he was charged, he stated he was wrongly accused and accused Trump of conducting himself like a "tyrant".

"My family and I have been aware for considerable time that there are consequences to challenging Donald Trump," he commented. "We will not live on our bended knee."
"I'm innocent," he continued. "So let's have a legal proceeding."

The accusations against James Comey surfaced after Donald Trump shared on social media calling for his attorney general, the attorney general, prosecute the former director and additional individuals.
